About these towels
Hand towels are used many times a day and stay damp longer than any other towel, so they need to be the most hygienic. Doctor Towels hand towels combine natural plant fibre with SkinShield™, our proprietary in-house antimicrobial blend.
In SITRA lab testing, SkinShield™ fabric reduced Staphylococcus aureus by 99.99% and Enterococcus faecalis, a faecal bacterium common in bathrooms, by 90%. Keep one per sink and wash every 2–3 days. See the reports on our Research page.
What is SkinShield™ technology?
SkinShield™ is our proprietary in-house antimicrobial blend, built into the fibre during manufacturing rather than sprayed on the surface. In NABL-accredited lab testing (SITRA, AATCC 100 and ISO 13629-2, 24-hour contact), our fabric reduced Staphylococcus aureus by 99.99% and faecal bacteria (Enterococcus faecalis) by 90%, plus the fungi Aspergillus niger by 99.99% and Candida albicans by 90.32%. In a 14-day dermatologist-run clinical study, SkinShield™ fabric reduced acne by 21% with no irritation. Full details are on our Research page.
Why does a hand towel need to be hygienic?
Everyone in the house dries their hands on it, often straight after the toilet, and it rarely dries fully between uses. In SITRA lab testing, SkinShield™ fabric reduced faecal bathroom bacteria (Enterococcus faecalis) by 90% and Staphylococcus aureus by 99.99%.
Can I also use my hand towel as a face towel?
It is better to keep separate towels to prevent germ transfer and breakouts. Use a dedicated face towel, or a towel with a Face Zone and Body Zone.
How should I care for my hand towels?
Wash separately the first time, then in cold water with a mild detergent on a light cycle. Avoid bleach, harsh detergents and fabric softeners. Hang to dry fully between uses.
